Advancing Accessible Public Health Communication Through Collaboration

October 30, 2025

The Washington State DD Council, represented by Contracts and State Plan Coordinator Kevin Vargas, participated in the 2025 Washington State Public Health Association (WSPHA) Conference in Yakima as a poster presenter. Invited by the Snohomish County Health Department, the Council co-presented a poster on Guidance for Improving Accessibility of Public Health Communications, a paper commissioned and funded by the Council in 2024 to help local health agencies make their materials more accessible.

Earlier this year, the Council shared the findings of this guide nationally through the Information and Technical Assistance Center for Councils on Developmental Disabilities (ITACC), which provides training and support to DD Councils across the country. The WSPHA presentation provided another opportunity to highlight this collaborative effort to improve communication accessibility within public health systems.

Kevin Vargas (DDC), Karrie Bray, and Sacha Coughran share poster details with conference participants.
