Hello!  My name is Emily Rogers.  I am a person with a developmental disability.  I have been working in the developmental disabilities' community here in Washington State for nearly 25 years.

I have spent 15 of those years working in the advocacy arena, teaching self-advocacy skills and doing statewide legislative advocacy.

Most recently I have been working here at the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council.  In my first position, advocacy was not my primary role. I did, however, have the opportunity to receive a deep understanding about our service system and how all of the pieces fit together.

It has been said, “You can take the woman out of advocacy, but you can’t take the advocacy out of the woman.”

My role now is the Public Policy Director, for the Washington State Disabilities Council.  My role has returned to advocacy, education and making space for others.  I so happy to return to advocacy, it is in my blood! I look forward to how I can be a part of helping to provide encouragement, and leadership as we continue to strive to make the developmental disability community stronger and more resilient moving forward.
