3.6 Civic Engagement and Advocacy Skills

Helping people with developmental disabilities, families and community partners build the skills and confidence to participate in civic life and advocate for change.

What we plan to do

The Council will strengthen civic engagement by supporting people with developmental disabilities, their families, and community partners as they build the knowledge, confidence, and skills to advocate for meaningful change in their communities and with policymakers.

Key activity

Building Skills for Civic and Public Engagement

What success looks like

Participants have more knowledge, confidence and skills to advocate for themselves and their communities. More organizations include civic-engagement skill-building in their work, and local and statewide advocacy networks become better connected and coordinated.
